How Does Botox Work?
Botox is a type of neurotoxin (botulinum toxin type A) that blocks nerve signals to specific muscles. When the muscles can no longer fully contract, they can no longer contribute to the formation of wrinkles. As the targeted muscles relax, the face appears smoother, softer, and younger.

The needles we use are long, thin, and sterile. You may feel a slight pinching sensation when the needle first enters your skin. It may also sting a little as we inject the neurotoxin. However, most people find the treatment much less uncomfortable than anticipated. It only takes about 15 minutes or less to treat each area.

Botox FAQ's
Numerous studies reveal the long-standing safety of Botox injections. 2
Possible side effects of Botox injections include localized skin irritation, inflammation, and minor pain. These usually go away within a few days. Serious but rare side effects include respiratory infection and sinusitis.
It usually takes approximately two weeks for the full effects of Botox injections to become apparent. However, you should be able to see some subtle changes to the Botox injection sites within a week of your appointment. Keep in mind that due to individual differences, some patients may see results sooner than others.
On average, the results of Botox injections typically remain visible for between 3 and 4 months after the initial injection. However, your results may last shorter or longer than this, depending on how quickly your body metabolizes the injections. The number of Botox units you receive can also have an impact on how long your results last.
The number of Botox units you need depends on many different factors. These include the treatment area, your gender (males often need more units than females), and your provider’s recommendations. Moderate to severe forehead or frown lines may require up to 20 units (10 on each side). Moderate to severe crow’s feet may respond best after receiving up to 24 units (12 on each side).
Botox injections require minimal to no downtime. You shouldn’t have to take any time off work or away from your normal daily activities. If you experience unusual or severe side effects that interfere with your daily life, contact your provider immediately or seek emergency medical care. You could be experiencing an allergic reaction to your injections.
Most people tolerate the sensation of Botox injections quite well, and you should not experience significant pain during your appointment. If you have sensitive skin and worry about being uncomfortable, we can numb the treatment area with ice or a topical numbing solution.
